Bush Administration May Be Dangerously Close to Launching Massive Attack on Iraq

News reports over the last several days indicate that the Bush administration may be moving dangerously close to launching a massive attack on Iraq. Russian media cite sources in the Gulf as saying that the US military has set up "tent cities" in Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar. This as more than 20,000 US marines are being readied for deployment in the Gulf by mid-October. US weapons manufacturers like Boeing continue to work around the clock to meet the Pentagon's recent demands. Next week, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, will hold hearings on Iraq. Every single "expert" that has so-far been called to testify supports a war against Iraq. One man who has not been invited is the former head of the UN Humanitarian Program in Iraq. Former Assistant UN Secretary General Hans von Sponeck. He resigned his post in 2000 in protest of the US-led sanctions against Iraq. Late last week, he sat down with independent journalist Jeremy Scahill to talk about what he would say at the Senate hearings, the prospects for averting a war and myths and realities about Iraq. The interview was conducted at WORT-FM in Madison, Wisconsin.
