Baghdad, October 26, 2002
Kathy Kelly, (second from left) co-founder of the Chicago, Illinois-based
Voices in the Wilderness, a political action group which opposes U.S.
foreign policy in Iraq, leads the Iraq Peace Team, a collection of
anti-war international activists, in a candlelight vigil outside the
offices of the U.S. Interests Section in the Polish Embassy in Baghdad,
Iraq. The vigil was organized in solidarity with anti-war demonstrators
marching in Washington D.C. and other cities across the United States.
The eight Americans currently in Baghdad with the Iraq Peace Team
violate a U.S. law, which restricts American citizens from traveling
to Iraq. If prosecuted, they may face penalties of up to 10 years
in prison and fines of $1 million.
